The Georgia River Network (GRN) will honor former President Jimmy Carter with the prestigious River Steward Award at their annual Georgia Rivers Gala on August 22nd. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the protection and preservation of Georgia's waterways.

President Carter, a lifelong advocate for environmental issues, has been instrumental in the conservation and restoration of Georgia's rivers and streams. His unwavering commitment to protecting water quality, promoting water conservation, and preserving our natural heritage has had a profound impact on the state's environment and the lives of its residents.

As a native Georgian, President Carter has witnessed firsthand the importance of clean, healthy rivers. He believes that protecting water resources is essential for the well-being of our communities, our economy, and our planet.

During his presidency, Carter signed into law the Clean Water Act, a landmark piece of legislation that revolutionized water pollution control in the United States. He also established the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, preserving a vital water source for Atlanta and surrounding communities.

Beyond his political accomplishments, President Carter has continued to champion water protection throughout his life. Through the Carter Center, he has led efforts to provide clean water to communities around the world, recognizing that access to safe water is a fundamental human right.

The Georgia River Network is proud to recognize President Carter's extraordinary contributions to water conservation and environmental protection. His unwavering dedication has inspired countless others to join the fight for clean water and a healthy environment.

The Georgia Rivers Gala is an annual event that brings together environmentalists, community leaders, and business partners to celebrate the importance of Georgia's rivers and raise funds for GRN's conservation programs.
