Fever Embark on Three-Game Western Road Trip with Seattle Showdown

The Indiana Fever, mired in a four-game losing streak at the start of their 2023 campaign, head west on Wednesday to face the Seattle Storm in the first leg of a three-game road trip. The Storm, coming off a disappointing home loss to the Atlanta Dream, look to rebound and improve their 1-3 record.

Fever Embark on Three-Game Western Road Trip with Seattle Showdown

The Seattle Storm, seeking their second win of the season, host the Indiana Fever on Wednesday at Climate Pledge Arena. The Fever, winless in their first four outings, embark on a three-game western road trip in search of their elusive breakthrough.

The Storm, led by the dynamic duo of Breanna Stewart and Tina Charles, boast an impressive lineup that also includes reigning Defensive Player of the Year Gabby Williams. Stewart, a four-time WNBA champion, is averaging 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while Charles, a three-time All-WNBA selection, is contributing 16.3 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Indiana, despite their record, has shown glimpses of potential. Recent first-round pick Aaliyah Boston has made an immediate impact, averaging 7.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Veteran forward Victoria Vivians has also provided a spark, averaging 14.0 points on 45.5% shooting from behind the arc.

The Storm come into the matchup looking to bounce back from a disappointing 91-81 home loss to the Atlanta Dream on Saturday. Stewart and Charles combined for just 23 points on 8-of-27 shooting in that game, and the Storm were outscored by 19 points in the paint.

The Fever, meanwhile, are coming off a 90-70 road loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday. Boston led the way for Indiana with 12 points and 12 rebounds, but no other Fever player scored in double figures.

The Storm will look to exploit the Fever's defensive struggles, as Indiana has allowed opponents to shoot 45.5% from the field this season, the second-highest mark in the league. Seattle, on the other hand, ranks among the top 10 in defensive efficiency, holding opponents to just 40.1% shooting.

The matchup between Stewart and Boston will be one to watch, as both players are known for their defensive prowess. Stewart is a four-time All-Defensive selection, while Boston was named Defensive Player of the Year in college at South Carolina.

In addition to the battle in the paint, the game could be decided by the three-point shooting of Vivians and Storm guard Jewell Loyd. Vivians is averaging 4.0 three-pointers per game, while Loyd is shooting 38.5% from behind the arc.

The Fever and Storm have met three times in the playoffs since 2020, with Seattle holding a 2-1 advantage. The Storm eliminated the Fever in the first round of the 2022 playoffs.

Wednesday's game tips off at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and can be watched live on ESPN2.
